Out of thousands of two- year institutions, Meridian Community College and seven other Mississippi community colleges were nominated for the aspen prize for community college excellence.
Barbara Jones says that their success stems from their strong instruction and support from the community and foundation.
The winner of the prize will receive 1 million dollars to be awarded every two years.
The colleges are chosen based on outstanding performance in student learning, degree and certificate completion, outcomes, and equity.
MCC now will move on to the next round and complete an application to become one of the top 10 finalist.
