Today and tomorrow the city of Meridian hosts water-based emergency drills for several emergency agencies across the state at Bonita lakes.
One of the trainers, Doug Stevens says the course is needed to keep disaster personnel's skills sharp.
“The state has set up a program where once every 18 to 24 months we come out and refresh all of our technical rescue skills. This week it’s water rescue. We were out here yesterday for eight-hour session. Today we're here for another one. Tomorrow we will be here again, but it's the same thing each day so we got 11 guys yesterday; 11 today, and 12 tomorrow,” Stevens said.
Stevens says the scenario was designed to be the aftermath of a tornado.
Rescue teams had to locate various dummies in the lake and execute rescue exercises.
