This week is national public works week; and Hugh Smith who acts as director in Meridian says he hopes residents will take this week to think about all the department does for the city.
Smith admits while most do know the purpose of the department; he says people are often surprised that public works can be considered first responders during emergencies.
At the end of the day Smith hopes people will see the hard work they do every day and simply thank them.
