The City of Meridian is inviting all runners and walkers to this year’s Moonlight Run, which takes place this Friday.
“At our Northeast Sports Complex, where softball, soccer, and tennis are played, we’ll have our 12th annual Moonlight Run, which is a 5k race. We also have a 2 mile walk and a kids’ fun run,” said Charlie Turner, the assistant director of the city’s Park and Recreation Department.
Turner said the event will be a great way to exercise.
“Looking for events that were unique, we came up with the Moonlight Run probably a decade plus ago. It is a night time event. Most of these 5ks are in the morning, and with the summer heat, a lot of people aren’t getting out and during their exercise. But they can come out after dark when it’s cool.”
More than 200 people are expected to attend this year’s Moonlight Run, which will start at 10 pm.
“The fun run starts first so we can get the little ones over with and let them get on back home to bed if necessary. Generally, the race is over by 11 or 11:15,” said Turner.
There will be music and refreshments, and participants will have the chance to compete for a medal.
“This year, for the first ever, we’ll be having customized Moonlight Run medals, which I think everybody will be excited to see. Hopefully, everybody will win one,” said Turner.
The registration fee is now $18 and will be $20 the day of the event.
