After last night’s vote, Meridian residents have decided to implement the restaurant food and beverage tax. The two percent sales tax will help fund the Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Experience, which is expected to create job growth in Meridian.
“We’re very proud about the results last night. We are looking forward to the building getting built and people coming to the city and spending their money in Meridian,” said Mayor Percy Bland.
Sixty-eight percent of the votes were in favor of the sales tax. Only 60 percent were needed for it to pass. The new tax will go into effect on October 1st.
