When classes start on Monday, students at Meridian Community College will have a new hangout center on campus.
“I love the folding doors on to the patio. I think it’s a fabulous addition to MCC,” said Alatha Williams, a member of the community.
Named after David H. Quave, a former MCC alum, the building will serve as the student life center. Today during a dedication ceremony honoring Quave, community members and faculty toured the building for the first time.
“It gives our students another place to unwind and relax. Aside from going back to their dorm rooms to go and hang out with other friends, they can actually stay on campus, and also they get to meet other faculty members here as well,” said Amber Matthews, an MCC employee.
Last year, Quave donated $1 million to the school, which made building the facility possible.
“We call David Quave our million-dollar man. He gave the largest single gift by a private individual than we’ve ever had in the history of Meridian Community College,” said Dr. Scott Elliott, MCC’s president.
Quave said he wanted to give back to his Alma Mater to create more opportunities for students.
“I was not interested in a football team, or putting sod on a field, or a cyclone fence around the tennis court. I was very much interested in the students and their everyday lives and participation in their educational process.”
