MCC announces 2016-2017 Arts and Letters Series

Chelsea Jones

Meridian Community College has announced its 2016-2017 Arts and Letters Series, which will include something for everyone.

“There’s going to be a multitude of concerts. There’s going to be theatrical plays. There’s going to be musicals. We’re incorporating high school students from all over Meridian Community College’s district, and so we’re extremely excited,” said Todd Brand, director of MCC’s Arts and Letters Series.

The series will kick off with a 9/11 memorial tribute.

“This year marks the 15th anniversary, so we really felt like we should do something to commemorate that. Our new band director, Jon Romero, this is his second year, is going to be producing this concert with the MCC community band. This event will be held at Highland Baptist Church on Sept. 11th at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. It’s a free concert to the public,” said Brand.

Other shows this fall include a jazz band concert, the play “Twelve Angry Men”, the MCC Christmas

Gala, and a partnership with the Meridian Public School District.

“We’ve got Meridian High kids who will be in the chorus and playing leads alongside MCC college students, so it’s going to be a fantastic show,” said Brand.

The spring will feature a stage musical of “The Little Mermaid”, a production of “Kiss Me, Kate,” and a choir performance by MCC dimensions.

Brand invited the community to come be a part of the series.

“Whether you’re a patron sitting in the audience, or whether you want to help out on a show, if you want to act, if you want to sing, if you want to work behind the scenes, we’ve got something for you, and you can get course credit for most of it here at MCC.”

Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $5 for students, and free for MCC faculty, staff, and students with ID.
