Two people from Lauderdale County have been taken into custody following an armed robbery that happened yesterday at a Dollar General store in Toomsuba.
Lauderdale County deputies say 36-year-old Stephanie Elaine Ward drew a handgun, demanded cash from the clerk, and then fled by vehicle. After receiving Crimestopper tips, deputies say they followed Ward to a hotel in Livingston, Ala. There, she was staying with 38-year-old John Wayne
Sims, who was wanted for two indictments for receiving stolen property.
“It was a situation where we got a two for one. We did not realize he was there. Him being there, however, helped us take him into custody. We had been looking for him for several months,” said Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun III.
Deputies say Sims was not involved in the armed robbery. Ward has been charged, and both individuals are currently being held in the Sumter County jail.
