College and career fair expose students to future possibilities

Colleges and businesses gathered yesterday in Southeast High School’s gym to expose students to the opportunities that lie ahead.

“Students need to know what’s going on in our community and outside our community, so they can prosper after high school, whether it’s college or an industry,” said Sydney Ethridge, the school counselor.

Over 35 colleges and businesses participated.

“We’re exposing them to our programs in all three counties and letting them know we’re here to serve them. We tell them about what we do and what we offer. We welcome anybody, any youth with open arms,” said Marshia Moody, the regional family involvement specialist at Nfusion X.

Students shared the schools they hoped to learn more about.

“Definitely Mississippi State because that’s where I want to go. I want to go there and major in animal veterinarian sciences and hopefully after that go to vet school and become a vet. But if that doesn’t work out, I will be going to MCC,” said Dunnam Shirley, a senior.

“I plan on visiting Scooba and Mississippi College. I plan on going to Scooba then Mississippi College. At Scooba, I plan on majoring in funeral service technology. At Mississippi College, most likely political science,” said Neko Eades, a senior.

Principal Russell Keene said the college and career fair coincided with parent teacher conference

to give parents a chance to talk with recruiters.

“Parents need to be involved in the decision making for their son or daughter. They’re so much of an influence for what they do after high school.”
