Love’s Kitchen asking for Thanksgiving food items

Chelsea Jones

Love’s Kitchen plans to serve up to 400 people on Thanksgiving Day and could use some help from the community.

“We’re going to have the traditional meal that everyone gets at home. We’ll have turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, rolls, and assorted desserts and drinks,” said Executive Director Fannie Johnson.

Love’s Kitchen already has enough volunteers to serve Thanksgiving dinner, but food donations are welcome.

“We still need some cheese for the homemade macaroni and cheese. But the turkeys are coming in pretty good. We still have some promises for other things coming in. Big shout out to the kids at Meridian High and the other schools. We have almost over 30,000 cans, so the can goods have come in great. We still need breakfast items and perishable items. We would like some fresh fruits and maybe some salads for that Friday after Thanksgiving, to try to bring everybody down from that huge meal they’re going to eat on Thursday.”

Johnson added that Love’s Kitchen is grateful for all the support.

“We get a little bit of government funding, but it’s probably not even 5% of our budget. Most of our support is from the community, local families, churches and businesses. We couldn’t survive without this community.”
