MCC’s Music Department starts holiday season with concert

Chelsea Jones

The Music Department at Meridian Community College will spread holiday cheer tomorrow night during its annual Christmas gala.

“This year for the first time it will include all ensembles within our music department, including our guitar ensemble, our brass ensemble, and our MCC Concert Choir,” said Choral Director Tammy Miles.

The concert starts at 7 and will be in the McCain Theater. The program will include a variety of Christmas favorites.

“You’ll hear a really nice song by Mr. Jackson Kercheval entitled “Thankful.” You’ll also hear some traditional acapella carols and some added percussions on some of our songs. We have an African noel song entitled “Ogo Ni Fun Oluwa, and we’ll be doing that with traditional African drums,” said Miles.

The event is free and open to the public.

“It’s a good time for us to come together as Americans and as fellow brothers and sisters and just have a good time of enjoying the spirit of the holidays,” said Miles.
