Suspect wanted by Lauderdale Co. Sheriff's department

Writer: ..

The Lauderdale county sheriff’s department is searching for Christopher Gibbs. He is the man who shot at them in Toomsumba, MS and then ran into the woods several days earlier.

“He is a 50-year-old black male, who stands approximately 5’9” in height weighing 165 pounds,” Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun said.

According to Calhoun, warrants have been issued for his arrest on five different charges.

“He has been charges as a felon in possession of a firearm, along with 4 counts of simple assault on a law enforcement officer. All of those are felony charges. This individual should be considered a dangerous individual. Anytime someone would shoot at law enforcement, that certainly gives you a look into their intent,” Calhoun explained.

Gibbs has been on the run for about two weeks now, but police are currently hot on his trail.

“We have been unable to locate Gibbs at this time, we have been looking for him since we identified who he was. Some of our investigation has lead us to believe that he may be in the Winston county area or in west Alabama,” Calhoun added.

Deputies are now asking for your help to capture Christopher Gibbs.

“He should be considered armed and dangerous, and if someone knows where he is, we would ask that either contact 911 or they can call crime stoppers,” Calhoun said.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of Mr. Gibbs, call Crimestoppers at (855) 485-8477. Remember you can remain anonymous; and if he’s captured due to your tips, you could be eligible for a cash reward.
