The Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Experience has started a fundraiser with the goal of raising $20,000.
“It’s really for a van. We’re in a need of a vehicle to transport artifacts. I don’t really want to leak any artifacts that are going to be available. But those can come from personal homes or other museums that are renting pieces,” said Director of Development Erica Pannell.
As construction continues, MAEEX has been raising money through the two percent food and beverage tax that went into effect last year. But Pannell said none of that money can go towards purchasing a van.
“I’ve gone around to local dealerships to ask if they could part ways with one. It can be gently used. Even if a company wanted to donate it, we can put the company name on the side of it.”
So far, $1,025 has been raised. Museum officials said they are also looking for sponsorship donors.
“There’s several naming opportunities for the museum. If there are any families or businesses that want to have a room in the museum to honor someone in the family, we have those as well.”
If you wish to contribute to the crowdfund, you can mail a check or stop by the MAEEX office.
