Anderson Hospital thanks its volunteers

Chelsea Jones

Anderson Regional Medical Center said a special thank you to its volunteers today during an appreciation luncheon.

“This week is National Volunteer Week, so we just wanted to celebrate them, let them know how much they are treasured and loved, and what a great resource they are to Anderson Regional Health System,” said Volunteer Coordinator Tiffney Spence.

Volunteers do everything from taking flowers to patients, to helping people find their way around the hospital, to even sitting here at the front desk and answering questions.

The volunteers were treated to a lunch of chicken cordon blue, scalloped potatoes, green beans, salad, and iced tea. Volunteer-of-the-year Denise Lewis was recognized for her 30 plus years of service at the hospital.

“It was a surprise. There are so many other volunteers that work more hours and have more duties to perform, so it was really a surprise for me,” said Lewis.

Even though it was a special day for volunteers, they still found time to give back.

“The volunteers gave supplies to our diabetic patients. They also gave a $500 check to the cancer center benevolent fund and a $300 check to the cancer center resource room,” said Spence.
