Municipal primary election starts tomorrow

Chelsea Jones

It’s time to vote again in Meridian. The municipal primary election is tomorrow.

“There’s only a democratic primary. All those on the republican side were unopposed, so if you’re voting democrat tomorrow is a very important day,” said District 5 Election Commissioner Jeff Tate.

Absentee voting ended on Saturday.

“We had just under 400 absentees vote for this primary,” said Tate.

The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. When you come to vote, make sure you bring the required documents.

“If each voter, when they walk in, could have their photo id in hand. That is a requirement. You must have a photo ID,” said Tate.

Those without a photo ID can vote via an affidavit ballot.

“Also, this isn’t required by law but it will help the voter get in and out quicker, is if they have their voter access card,” said Tate.

He added that results should be ready by Wednesday mid-afternoon.

“If none of the candidates are able to get majority of votes, then the top two vote getters will see each other in a runoff on May 16.”
