The Jimmie Rodgers Foundation is inviting all active duty military members and their families to come and learn about the singing legend, Jimmie Rodgers.
“He is the original country artist. He has had significant influence on many of the artists that we see today and that we’ve enjoyed through the years,” said Betty Lou Jones, the foundation’s president.
The foundation has announced that the Jimmie Rodgers Museum is now a Blue Star Museum.
“This is a program where museums across the country give free admission to military families from Memorial Day to Labor Day,” said Jones.
The program results from a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, and the Department of Defense.
The Jimmy Rodgers Museum now joins more than 2,000 museums across the nation that are designated as Blue Star Museums.
“The National Endowment for the Arts invites museums to participate and makes it possible for them to become this huge system, so that they can expose youth and adults to more about the history of our nation,” said Jones.
She added that the museum’s new status helps preserve the Jimmie Rodgers legacy.
“It’s very important for us to recognize what he accomplished, a Mississippi boy with no training, not much education, but a desire to make a difference in the world of music. He has made international inroads as far as that’s concern.”
