Two suspects accused of a quadruple shooting in the Highway Village Apartments on 16th Street appeared in court yesterday. 20-year-old Kudarrius Tubbs and 19-year-old Cedmondray Lewis stood before a judge during a preliminary hearing.
“The gang unit of Meridian S.W.A.T. went Saturday morning and served a search warrant where one suspect was taken to custody. The other suspect turned himself in Sunday,” said Meridian Police Capt. John Griffith.
Police said around 7 p.m. Thursday night, two cars drove up to the apartment basketball court and began shooting, hitting four victims. Police believe the incident may have been gang related.
“The gang unit has been working it and we’ve come up with three possible total suspects,” said Griffith.
The third suspect is Michael Williams who turned himself in yesterday afternoon. Police said all the victims were male and some may have been affiliated with gangs.
“We had one 14-year-old that was airlifted to Jackson. He was hit in the leg but the bullet hit the femur. That’s the biggest reason he was transported over to Jackson. To my understanding everybody is stable and still recovering and healing.”
In court, Tubbs and Lewis decided to waive the preliminary hearing and will await trial. Tubbs, Lewis, and Williams have each been charged with three counts of drive-by shooting, three counts of conspiracy to commit a crime, and three counts of attempted murder. Each of their bonds have been set at $30,000 per count, totaling $270,000.
