For the upcoming school year, the Meridian Public School District has decided to invest more in its teachers. On Wednesdays, school will be dismissed an hour earlier to give teachers time to collaborate and to undergo professional development.
“Years ago, the Meridian Public School District had an early release schedule, and with the increase in standards and requirements for teachers, the district moved away from it. But what we found this past year is that our teachers were so committed. They stayed late to plan together. We also did a survey where we asked them what can we do to support them in their efforts to become better educators, and the number one answer tends to be more professional growth time together,” said Superintendent Dr. Amy Carter.
This means that each Wednesday, elementary schools will be dismissed at 1:45 p.m. and secondary schools will be dismissed at 2:15 p.m.
