Salvation Army of Meridian sending mobile kitchen to Texas and Louisiana

Chelsea Jones

To assist with relief efforts, the Salvation Army of Meridian will soon take its mobile kitchen to Texas and Louisiana to help feed hurricane victims. It’s one of 42 Salvation Army mobile kitchens across the nation that are being sent to the region over the weekend. Each of the mobile kitchens can serve an average of 1,500 meals per day.

“We have a pretty big canteen. Out of Mississippi we have six big canteens. We carry one of them. Any day we’re going to get a phone call to go to Texas and start serving,” said Salvation Army Corps Officer Young Soon Kim.

The Salvation Army of Meridian is asking for food and monetary donations. Canned foods, especially canned vegetables are highly requested. You can make a monetary donation by visiting www.helpsalvationarmy.org or by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY. Checks can be mailed to the Salvation Army of Meridian or Salvation Army headquarters in Atlanta. Please designate “Hurricane Harvey” on all checks.
