Family, friends, and Meridian firefighters gathered at Fire Station # 1 Thursday to remember former firefighter, Eric Gustafson. He died last year when he and two other firefighters were responding to a call, and the firetruck they were in rolled over. Gustafson was driving the truck and died from his injures. The other two firefighters survived.
“Eric was a friendly guy, a really friendly guy, happy-go-lucky. I had the chance to work with him for approximately a year and a half before I left. He was really a good guy. He loved his family. He loved being a fireman and we miss him,” said Daniel Mabry, chief of training for the Meridian Fire Department.
During the ceremony, firefighters recited the fireman’s prayer and the fire chief and Gustafson’s pastor gave a speech. As a way to remember Gustafson, the Meridian Fire Department installed a plaque next to the flag in front of the fire station.
