After debating over who pays for E911 services, Lauderdale County and the City of Meridian say the joint emergency-response commission will continue. The county and city share E911 services and both are to help cover costs. But last month, the Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors complained the city wasn’t paying their share and considered cutting ties with the city in providing the service. But city council members say the county supervisors had their numbers wrong.
“It was brought to my attention that there were maybe some inconsistencies with some of their expenses, and it appeared that they may have been artificially inflating their budget at times. We just thought it would be a good idea to have a council member involved to be another check for accountability.”
To help keep communication clear about how much the city and county should be paying for E911 services, City Councilman Weston Lindemann was appointed to the county’s E911 Communications Board.
