Lauderdale County adopts paper ballot system

Chelsea Jones

Starting next year, Lauderdale County voters will use a paper ballot system to cast their votes. The Board of Supervisors on Monday approved the purchase of the new voting system, which will cost around $320,000. Supervisors say the system is simpler and much more efficient in tallying votes. It allows voters to feed paper ballots into a scanner, which will count results on site. The county has 42 precincts and with the new system, there will be one scanner per precinct.
