It’s Fire Prevention Week and the Meridian Fire Department says that means it’s time to put in place a home fire escape plan. According to the National Fire Protection Association, today’s homes burn faster than ever, due to modern home furnishings, and the fact that new homes tend to be built with more open space and unprotected lightweight construction. The Meridian Fire Department says your home fire escape plan should include working smoke alarms in every bedroom, two exits out of each room, and an outside meeting place a safe distance from the home. They add that home escape plans should be practiced by all members of the household at least twice a year.
