A new clinic where patients can receive oral health services has recently opened.
“We do anything from wisdom teeth removal, dental implants, all the way to jaw reconstruction, facial trauma, oral pathology, TMJ, and sleep apnea.”
Tuesday the EMBDC hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for East Mississippi Oral and Facial Surgery.
Dr. Asif Lala, a maxillofacial surgeon, is the owner. Originally from Meridian, Lala left Georgia and came back home, looking for a family-friendly community. When he got here, he realized there were limited oral health services available.
“Lot of patients had to go to Jackson or Hattiesburg or Tuscaloosa to get their treatments. I was able to bring that here and offer a wide array of services that really weren’t available here. I think that’s a big advantage and to be able to do it under one roof,” said Lala.
He is partnering with Dr. Ferrell Fort, another oral maxillofacial surgeon, and his wife in providing services.
“I have worked with people in the past, but you never get that complete autonomy of being able to practice the way you want to after spending so long training. My wife is also a physician. It just works out perfectly. I’ll be able to handle a lot of the oral surgery aspects. She can handle all of the internal medicine and management aspect.”
Lala said the clinic is now accepting patients.
“Of course, we accept anybody off the street, but not many people wake up saying I’m going to get my wisdom teeth out today. Typically, your general dentist will refer you here… So, go to your dentist and they’ll let you know if we’re right for you.”
