Meridian Main Street is asking residents to lend a helping hand in cleaning up the streets of downtown Meridian.
“We’re going to be cleaning up mainly 22nd Avenue, Dumont Plaza, by the courthouse by MSU Riley Center,” said Apryl Leggett, the administrative assistant with the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation.
This Saturday, volunteers have the opportunity to keep Meridian beautiful by picking up trash and throwing it away.
“We had the candy crawl, which was this past Tuesday. We want to make sure everything from that has been picked up because we have lots of events coming up, such as Shop Small Saturday, and Merry Meridian,” said Leggett.
Meridian Main Street holds a downtown cleanup every season and saw a big turnout last Spring. It hopes to see an even more people this Fall on Saturday.
“You just need to bring yourselves. We have gloves. We have trash bags. We’re going to have donuts and coffee. You really just need to show up,” said Leggett.
A branch under the EMBDC, Meridian Main Street says that cleaning up downtown is a simple, yet important way to bring more economic growth in to the city.
“We are the Chamber of Commerce, so we want to make sure that our members for the chamber and tourists, see that we have a beautiful hometown, and we need to keep it looking as best as it can be,” said Leggett.
