59th Annual Kentucky Ham Meal

It’s been 59 years since First Christian Church has been providing the community with homemade biscuits and fried ham. Today they began their Annual Kentucky Ham Meal fundraiser. We hear more from pastor Benson.

“This is the 59th Annual Kentucky ham meal at First Christian Church. We weren’t able to do it last year because of the pandemic, probably the only year that we have missed it in its 59-year history, so we are really excited to be able to offer it again this year to the community of meridian and have them come in and enjoy breakfast lunch or supper this evening, “said Pastor Benson.

A church member who has been involved since she join the church back in 1983 tells us her favorite part about the Kentucky Ham Meal.

“Well, there are several things that I really like. One thing is it involves every member of the church if they so desire. So, everybody in the church gets involved. We get to see each other in an atmosphere that's unlike Sunday morning atmospheres. We also get to feed people in the community and all of the work, all of the benefits that come from our meal goes to missions,” said Willis.

The proceeds from the Kentucky Ham go to 9 different charities 8 of them are local and the other is in Jackson.

“Charities that a lot of people would recognize like the boys and girls club, Carelodge, L.O.V.E.S Kitchen just to name a few. The proceeds go to benefit groups in this community that are really making a difference and that makes me feel good as the pastor of this church and makes our church feel good as a congregation, “stated Pastor Benson.

The meal will continue today and tomorrow from 6:30 am until 1:30 pm. Carry-outs are also available with a drive-thru on 13th street.
