Today at NAS Meridian, an aircraft mishap exercise was conducted on base. The simulation involved NAS Meridian’s security, fire and emergency services, and the emergency operations center. The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department also assisted in the exercise. The scenario of the simulation was that an aircraft had crashed and caught on fire, and all personnel were to respond to the scene, put out the fire, and rescue the pilot who had ejected.

“It’s great to come out here and get hands on, for the guys to get out here and actually work the trucks and extinguish live fire, because that was actually live fire back there, and just great training for the guys to be ready fir whenever something does occur,” said Kelvin Williams, Assistant Fire Chief of Operations at NAS Meridian.
These training exercises are held around six times a year at NAS Meridian, with different scenarios for each simulation.
