The Lauderdale County School District is now in the second week of its Rising Tide Return To School Plan, where all middle schoolers across the district return to on-campus learning today.

Today is the first day students and staff members at Northeast Middle School are no longer following an A-Day B-Day schedule for in-person learning.

All middle school students across the district participating in the Enhanced Traditional Scenario have now returned to their campuses for in-person learning, still learning virtually on Wednesdays.

Staff at Northeast Middle School were glad to welcome their students back to their classrooms once more, now heavily monitoring crowd control in the hallways, enforcing social distancing.

“It’s almost liked our 3rd first day, as we put it, but its exciting to see everybody back and you know, the kids being able to see their friends that they haven’t seen. So, seeing smiles on faces, and seeing the hallways full, you know, that’s been exciting this morning, said Josh Snider, Asst. Principal at Northeast Middle.

One teacher shared that it feels as though a sense of normalcy has returned to the classroom

“It feels like maybe my goals are more obtainable, because I actually have time with the kids, you know, because we really have no control over what they’re doing those three days they’ve been at home, so its nice to have them with me. I feel like I can hold them more accountable,” said Jennifer McDonald, 7th/ 8th grade math teacher at Northeast Middle.

Also saying with the new return, students seem more excited about school.

“Their demeanor for the first four weeks, they were overwhelmed and probably afraid and you know, they’ve settled in a little bit in smaller groups, but now, you can feel it in the air. They’re excited to see their friends, and be back and it may take them a day or two to get them to settle down in end, but their excited, and that’s nice,” said McDonald.

The Lauderdale County School District will continue its Rising Tide Return Plan with all of the high school students in the district, who are participating in the enhanced traditional scenario, returning to their campuses on Monday, September 28.
