Meridian, MS - This week began week two of Meridian Community College’s “College 4 Kids” program, but it also began their Annual STEAM program.
“Stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. It’s always during the 2nd week of college for kids at MCC. This week they’re taking a class about science, we call it “Science-Frenzy.” They just get their feet wet, see what part of that class they enjoy, it helps them really dig into learning about things they’re passionate about.” - Brandon Dewease.
Associate Dean of Student Affairs Brandon Dewease feels every student finds something they love during the program. “Generally, those classes are put together trying to find subjects that students are interested in and sign up for. Science always does well, we’ve done engineering classes, art classes, it's just kind of all over the board.”
So, what’s the overall goal of STEAM week? “We want this to teach them that education can be something that they handpick for themselves and advance their own future.”
The College says its priority is to make sure students have a great time while learning.
