Meridian, MS - The ribbon has officially been cut dedicating the newly renovated Velma Young Basketball court to Meridian’s own Coach Joni Crenshaw-Taylor.
“I’m just excited to see everyone, I don’t get back a lot anymore, it’s very rare so it’s really good to see everyone and to think they came to support something I’m doing or an honor that’s being given to me is just amazing.” -Coach Joni Crenshaw-Taylor
Coach Taylor is a former Meridian High School Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year, 2-Time Track State Champion, Team USA Head & Assistant Coach, and the Head women’s Basketball Coach at Texas A&M University. “I feel like it’s my responsibility and my obligation to give back so if I can do anything that will help somebody else along the way that’s what it’s supposed to be about.”
Park and Recreations Director Thomas Adams believes Coach Taylor’s inspiration is well deserved. “It’s inspiring for the younger kids, and especially the younger girls in our area and surrounding communities to pull from that and see she is a role model.”
Coach Taylor will also be having a Girls Only Basketball Camp tomorrow at Meridian High School from 8AM – 3PM.
