Becoming Me Mentoring Program

An agency in the city of meridian has kick-started a new program to help better young men in the community.

A new program geared towards helping to mentor young men is now available in The Queen City. Created by the Multi-County Community Agency that plans to help mold the future generation of upcoming men. Ronald Collier the Executive Director tells us more.

"This program, Becoming Me Mentoring, will absolutely change some of the dynamics of Meridian is a lot of work to be done. There's a great need for services to work with young men," said Collier.

The mentoring program has intentions to show young men they have the potential to be successful and teach them critical thinking, empathy, and how to make better decisions.

Collier said, "We plan on vetting mentors who can have a relationship with one child that can take them out to do an event, something as simple as learning to tie a tie or learning how to go pick coordinating clothes in a store or to a football event so that they begin to process successful functioning."

The Executive Director has done this program in other parts of the country and says he knows this program will work and bring some positivity to The City of Meridian.

"We want the parents, not only the mothers, but the fathers, to bring their sons so that we can begin to infuse information in them so they can make good decisions. They don't have to become gang members. They don't have to determine whether they want to quit school. They can see something that will allow them to become successful," stated Collier.

"Becoming Me Mentoring meets every Thursday at 6 pm at the Multi-County Community Agency.

"So we want to be able now to take becoming me mentoring and allow young men not to be what they see but to become who they are designed to be."
