Meridian, MS - Summer fever is in the air as many people are enjoying the weather and looking forward to their vacation plans.

“Definitely get your kids some kind of swimming lessons so they can definitely stay safe around the water," Kiersten Mabry said.
Mabry is one of the lifeguards at the Highland Park pool in Meridian and encourages people to use caution near the water this summer. “No running, and make sure to watch your kids so they don’t get into the pool unsupervised,” Mabry said.
Cameron Morris says the main thing people should know before hitting the pool is safety. “Be aware of everybody that’s around you, don’t jump over on top of people, just be aware of your surroundings. That’s all,” Morris said.
To Justus Willis, being fun and being safe go hand in hand. “When it’s slippery and stuff like that you don’t nobody falling, and skinning their knees and stuff like that, just want everybody to stay safe,” Willis said.
Highland Park and the lifeguards say they want everyone to have the safest summer possible.
