MERIDIAN, Miss. - Polls will open tomorrow to determine who will be the winner for the democratic mayoral runoff election. Candidates Percy Bland and Jimmie Smith have been at work the last few weeks to get voters in their favor.
“We have heard from the people that we canvas and we’ve gotten our message out and we just want to tell all the voters who support us to go to the polls tomorrow and cast their vote," said Bland.
“We’re trying to get folks out to the polls tomorrow and we’ve been going door to door-what we did was revisit our plan," said Smith. "We’re just planning to work and working to plan.”
Both Bland and Smith have plans for the city to reach its full potential.
“I’m concerned about the community as a whole and I’m talking about roads, the cleanliness of the city and the leadership style is different," said Smith. I’m one of those people who believe in letting people do their jobs.”
Bland wants to continue several ongoing projects in the city.
“Our team has been at the table to put a lot of those projects in place and we want to finish them and we want to do more things that we’ve heard from the community," Bland explained.
To undecided voters, candidates say…
“Vote to reelect Percy Bland. You will not be disappointed," said Bland. "We’re going to do all the things that you guys communicated to us.”
“…hope and pray that folks get out there and vote their conviction," said Smith. "I believe there’s an air of change in the air and I believe that’s going to take us over the top.”
The runoff will also include City Council seats for Ward 3 and Ward 5.
