Breast Cancer Awareness Walk in Downtown Meridian

csims121

Meridian, MS - The United Way and EC HealthNet showed up and showed out today in support of spreading awareness to Breast Cancer.

Program Coordinator with EC Healthnet, Trisha Richter, tells Twin States all about today's walk.

"We have partnered with United Way to sponsor a breast cancer awareness walk. This is the first year we have partnered with United Way, but we plan on making it an annual thing and inviting all of the local area employees to come and take a break and just walk for breast cancer awareness. It's mostly just to raise awareness. We do accept donations, and all of those donations are going to the benevolence fund. Which is actually local, all the money stays local to help those who are experiencing cancer."

Kym Parnell with the United Way has a very important message for anyone watching.

"Women and men, go get your mammograms. I have actually met three men that have had breast cancer, so make sure we stay checked. It's important, that is part of our health. "

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, nearly three hundred thousand women and 2,800 men will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in 2023. Go get your mammograms.
