In Meridian, on Saturday, June 27, the organizers of the Dream Team of The South held their third “Breathe Through Me” peace rally, speaking out against police brutality, changing the Mississippi state flag, and the removal of the confederate monument in front of the Lauderdale County Courthouse.
The peace rally began on city hall’s lawn at 3pm, where the group then led a march to the meridian police department. There, many spoke out against social injustices, and about the alleged police brutality incident that occurred during the arrest of Levi Gibbs in March this year, demanding justice and a further investigation.
“I’m standing for the justice for all of the people that are victims of police brutality and racial profiling, and I’m standing for my people who are scared for their lives every time they walk out the door, scared they might get killed, or it could be their mother, their brother, their sister, their auntie”, said Kiana Young, peace rally participant.
“It’s okay to be scared, but it’s not okay to not fight for what’s right, --for being scared. Like, I don’t feel like you should be too scared to where you can’t fight”, said Kahyra Dixon, peace rally participant.

One of the organizers of the Dream Team of The South, N’spire Walker, will be speaking at the city council work session tomorrow, June 30 at 9am to discuss the Dream Team of The South’s plan and initiative to bring unity within the Meridian community, promoting community growth and development .
