The Care Lodge has begun to donate bags with hygiene products to schools in the surrounding area as a part of their outreach to teens.
The hygiene bags include sanitary napkins, hand sanitizer, and cards with information on teen dating violence. Fifty bags have already been given to the Lauderdale County School District to be distributed amongst nurse and counselor’s offices throughout the district. Care Lodge’s community engagement director shared that the project stemmed from the shelter passing out bags with awareness material at the Earth’s Bounty farmers market.
“With the barrier of not being able to be in classrooms this semester, I thought, well I could put those two ideas together and put this awareness information for teens with hygiene products in these bags and drop them off at the nurses office and allow them the opportunity to share the information with the students as they see them,” said Sara Smith, Community Engagement Director at Care Lodge.

Care Lodge plans to continue distributing the hygiene bags to schools in their service area, and is currently accepting donations of hygiene items for the bags.
