Care Lodge honors victims for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic Violence Awareness Month is looking slightly different due to the pandemic, but it still holds the same purpose. Someone once said, “I raise up my voice--not so that I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard.”

“At Care Lodge we’re spotlighting the message of hope to be shared for people who are trying to break free from violence in a relationship, but also recognize those who have lost their live,” says Director of Community Engagement Sara Smith. “There’s a lot of emotion behind this month and supporting those who are dealing with it right now.”

For those who are interested can purchase a purple light bulb or yard sign for the ‘My Light Shines for Victims of Domestic Violence' campaign. These light bulbs can be used in your home or porch to promote awareness.

“It just shows your support of victims and that you’re a safe person to get information from and you’re sharing the crisis line right there from your front yard so it’s just an easy way to share information quickly with people who are just passing by.”

Smith says domestic violence has increased during the pandemic.

“The National Statistics with Domestic Violence share that one in three women and one in four men are affected by physical abuse every year. One out of three teens are involved in some sort of domestic violence within the age of 12 to 24.”
