In Meridian, with many disinfectant wipes and masks still in high demand, a local domestic violence shelter is struggling to find supplies that are necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Care Lodge has been following the CDC’s recommended guidelines to prevent the spread of the coronavirus amongst employees and residents at the shelter, but with shelves of stores still being cleared of wipes, sprays, masks, and gloves, they are unable to secure these items.
Community Engagement Director at Care Lodge, Sara Smith, shares that this presents a new challenge as they continue to service victims at the shelter.
“There’s a huge demand for disinfectant sprays and wipes, gloves, and masks. The people we serve here at Care Lodge, live here. So, its very hard for them to get ahold of the supplies that they need, just like all of us. Its hard for all of us to get those supplies, but as a service organization, we’re supposed to try to eliminate every and any barrier we can, for the people. So, they feel safe where they’re at, in order for us to provide the best services we can, for the families we serve”, said Sara Smith.
She also says that members of the community have been helpful in aiding the shelter as they continue to search for these supplies.
“So, we are trying to grab what we can when people are letting us know when supplies are available, calling in and letting us know, ‘hey there’s Clorox wipes here or hey, I was over at this grocery store and they had hand sanitizer’. Really, really thankful for all of the call-ins and tips, but we are trying to grab what we can, but it still is ongoing, just like everyone else is dealing with, we continually need supplies”, said Smith.

The Care Lodge is currently accepting donations at their main office on 23rd Avenue for masks and disinfectants to continue preventing the spread of COVID-19 within the domestic violence shelter.
