A project that has been talked about in the past has now been approved by the City Council.

Today The Meridian City Council approved a re-pavement project that will give kids a safer route to and from school. We learn more about what that entails.
Public Works Director David Hodge said,” This has been a discussion for some time. It's primarily to help bring traffic carry traffic from school, from kids being able to walk to and from school in a safer manner than they are right now. So the sidewalk will provide more safety. There'll actually be a crosswalk. I think it's 16th avenue, there's a crosswalk there now will improve that.”
Hodge says now that the council has approved the project the grant they were awarded is a transportation alternative program from Endbite.
“It will be a sidewalk project from 23rd avenue on 24th street between 23rd avenue and 14th avenue for magnolia middle school, basically primarily,” said Hodge.
Councilman Davis of Ward 2 Says it is a good day for Ward 2 and its citizens and the children on the project being approved.
“Mdot is going to give us over $600,000. The city is going to do a 20% matching fund. So the project has been about to start within the next few months. And we'll be able to help the kids now walk in the street when they go on to and from school and they'll be safe in the area,” said Davis
Hodge states once they get engineering together, they will be designing then constructing the sidewalk with plans to start sometime within the next few months.
