Good news for meridian Mayor Jimmie Smith, who after a long fight, finally got his appointees approved in yesterday’s city council meeting.
Mayor Jimmie Smith is delighted to finally have gotten now five appointees into head department positions. The mayor has been trying to get those positions filled since July of this year when the city council first denied the initial names smith put in.

“I’m very excited about the appointees being approved last night. I thank the council because it's about all of us. It’s not about one of us; it’s about all of us. I think the search for these people took a while and we invested in time and searching for these people.”
Among the new appointees:
TIM MILLER- CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER 3-2 (Norwood, Davis Opposed)
CRAIG HITT- COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR 3-2 (Norwood, Davis Opposed)
JASON COLLIER- FIRE CHIEF 5-0
DEBORAH YOUNG- POLICE CHIEF 5-0
THOMAS ADAMS- PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR 5-0
“I think that the new leadership that we got in these different departments is going to make a surprising difference. Meridian has to give us an opportunity as a new city council and administration to prove to the citizens of Meridian that we can do the job and we’re going to do the job.”
This decision is a new start for city administration.
