Meridian, MS - The City of Meridian is working to keep downtown looking nice and clean.
Community Development, and the Meridian City Council worked to create new amendments of ordinances regarding sidewalk cleanliness. The new amendments are expected to help business and property owners take care of the cleanliness of their area.
According to Community Development Director Craig Hitt, this includes keeping the sidewalk clear of debris or grass. “Sometimes there is an area between the sidewalk and the street, and some business, some landowners were not maintaining that area, so it’s a combination of issues we’ve dealt with, that we just feel like this tool will us address quicker and more efficient for all of the city, leadership as well as the citizens.”
Offenses to the new amendments can result in citations.
The first citation is 100 dollars, the second is 250 dollars and the third is 500 dollars.
