Meridian, MS - Brian McCary is the new Animal Control Supervisor for the City of Meridian and feels that his position was his calling.
“I’ve been a servant of the people of Lauderdale County for 11 years, I took a little stint and left and went to the private industry and did some work where I was an operations manager, and I’ve comeback now to serves the taxpayers of Meridian and Lauderdale County. Anytime you do anything, there’s got to be a calling on it. If you don’t have a calling towards it, then really, what’s the purpose of doing it.” says McCary.
Recently starting the position over two weeks ago, Brian shares what his days involve. “It’s not a nine-to-five job, we come in here at 8:00 and we get the facility cleaned up, we make sure all the animals are cleaned up, their cages are cleaned up. Then we hit the streets, patrolling the city, doing anything from picking up dead animals, dogs running at large, helping local businesses with nuisance of like cats, wild cats, setting traps up, things of that nature.”
So, what happens to the animals retrieved by animal control? “We’re trying to make sure we adopt all those pets out, and make sure they go to nice loving homes.”
Supervisor Brian McCary says he wants the animal control division to be one the city can be proud of.
