The City of Meridian will hold an election for the City’s franchise agreement with Mississippi Power.
Every 25 years, the city renews its agreement with the company. Citizens are asked whether or not they approve of an ordinance passed by the city council.
Mississippi Power currently pays the city a franchise fee of 3%.
“We are hoping that the citizens would affirm the franchise agreement the way it is because that keeps the city’s budgets level,” explains Chief Administrative Officer Eddie Kelly. “We don’t have to decrease any services or potentially have to raise taxes.”
The election will take place tomorrow, August 4th. Polls will be open from 7AM to 7PM. Precincts will be available to residents. If a precinct is not open during hours, citizens are asked to vote at City Hall.
