Clarke County mother to host 'Stand Against Violence' Rally in honor of her son

Updated: Sep 3, 2020

Bruce O’ Bryant Dear was murdered in a robbery incident on September 11, 2016. To carry on his golden legacy, his mother, Tracey Dear honors him with the fifth ‘Stand Against Violence’ rally in Quitman on Saturday.

“So I had to sit down and think, if I’m going to carry his legacy on, I need to come up with how will I do it. So I decided to come up with it-every week on the week before September 11th to do a walk in honor of him and also do a program,” Dear explains.

The rally is scheduled to begin at 10AM at the Clarke County Courthouse and end at Sumrall Park. There, family members are welcome to speak about loved ones they’ve lost to violence.

“We have free food there and drinks. It’s supposed to be a few vendors out there exploring and everybody is welcome to come. You have to wear a mask.”

According to his mother, Bruce was a caring spirit and kind hearted to anyone he came across.

“You always saw this smile on his face. He kept his smile even though he was going through something you’d never know it. He would give you the shirt off his back- just a heart of gold.”

Dear says she will continue to fight for justice for her son and wants to encourage others who may be going through the same experience.

“I want to let people know, the ones who lately just lost someone-they are not in it alone. We’re all in this together and keep praying and keep focusing on God."
