'College for Kids' kicks off at Meridian Community College

ree

MERIDIAN, Miss. - Meridian Community College kicked off their annual ‘College for Kids’ summer enrichment program today. The program is for children ages 6-12. Due to COVID-19, last year put a pause on the 2-week experience, but Director of Student Engagement Brandon Dewease says they're excited to start back.

“The program runs from about 8 in the morning to about lunchtime. Students in that amount of time normally get to go to two classes," said Dewease. "We have everything from lego mania, about spies in disguises. We have art classes and I just saw clydesdales in the parking lot."

About 500 children are participating this year. The college is ensuring new safety protocols to limit exposure while still allowing the summer experience. Dewease says some of the classes will be smaller.

“We tried to cut down on the number of individuals that our student body was going to be exposed to by pairing each class with another class. They stay with one group of students and transition in the middle of the morning and they’re around the same set of students for the second class.”

The College for Kids program will be from June 7th-11th and June 14th-18th. For more information on the program, visit here.
