College Month at Meridian High School

For a lot of High School Seniors doing College applications can be a little overwhelming. One College in Meridian are making sure it’s Seniors are ready and informed when applying to colleges.

The month of October is College Month at Meridian High School where the school pushes to get students prepared for colleges. Today they are hosting College Application Day where they have partnered with Meridian Community College to help students with application processes to apply to Colleges.

Tiffany Roberts the College and Career Counselor at Meridian High tells us why College Application Day is so important. “College Application Day is very important to our students because it’s their first steps in being able to continue their education after a successful Graduation from High School.”

The Dual Education Coordinator at Meridian Community College, Ieshea robertson understands the challenges some students have with doing applications for Colleges.

“It's kind of a hard process sometimes, so we like to come out and get them started, walk them through the process if they have any questions, it makes it very easier for them.”

12th graders at meridian high school who are due to graduate says that they appreciate the initiative of the school helping them understand the process.

“I feel like it’s good because some people don’t have a chance to do that and you have the school here helping going step by step.” said Donquantae Scott.

Jasmine Marsh said, “It’s actually good because most schools don’t get this opportunity.”

Some seniors like Jasmine already have colleges that they have applied to or have colleges that they have in mind.

“One I applied to is MCC and do my two years there and I want to apply to Southern Mississippi University and do a full ride.”

Meridian High school College Month continues with their upcoming Job Fair and FAFSA Day to help push and encourage students to start early on applications for college.
