The City of Meridian is seeing economic development in the year of 2021. One of the main attractions is the restoration of the three foot Marriott Hotel in downtown Meridian next to the Riley center.
“You can see the work going on there. The rooms inside are looking beautiful. They just got a pizza over for the rooftop bar restaurant," said Laura Carmichael, Community Development Director. "So, we’re really excited about the opening of that.”
Other developments including restaurants, shopping centers and the Mississippi Children’s Museum-Meridian are on the rise in the area. A new shopping center is underway on Frontage Road next to iHop as well as a new Popeyes and Burger King on North Hills Street. Carmichael says the new three foot brewery in downtown is expected to bring much attention.

“A couple of events will be the three foot festival and things like that. Hopefully we’ll start seeing a lot more of those things happening where we’ve got the events and people coming into downtown.”
Although we are seeing much growth in the Meridian area, people are still encouraged to remain safe while exploring developments when they give the green light of opening. The city mask mandate is set to expire on February 28th, 2021.
“It’s really important that we keep that message out there about all these great things going on--we want to encourage people to shop local, but we also want to encourage people to be safe as they’re doing it.”
These developments in Meridian should be set to open mid 2021.
