Community Skatepark Meeting

Last night a Community Skatepark meeting was held to discuss some possible locations and design ideas. Grindline Skateparks Inc. from Seattle was in town and went over ideas and heard from the community about what they wanted for the Skatepark.

"Tonight we have Grindline Skatepark company. They came all the way from Seattle to Meridian, Mississippi, to meet with the community to see what they want in a skate park," stated Ty Bell Lindsey.

Fluegge said the main purpose of his trip to Meridian was to strictly gather feedback and gather information from the community before they start with any type of design.

"Today, we're basically just kind of telling a little bit about who we are and our experience and design philosophy and also the design process so everybody knows what to expect moving forward," said Matt Fluegge.

Some of the possible sites they discussed for the skatepark were

Kate Griffion Ball Field, Sowashee Park, Highland Park, and Ben Arthur Davis Park.

"We'll show some skatepark examples as well as some potential sites that were discussed with the city staff and council members today and just kind of get feedback and basically with that, try to select the site and come back to Meridian with the initial concept, and conceptual design to present to the community for feedback," said Fluegge.

A local skater who says he has been waiting 6 years for a skate park in Meridian shares his expectations for the park.

"Safe, I hope. I hope we get some restrooms and water fountains and vending machines and cameras. That's all I'm really worried about. I'm not really worried about obstacles or any of the street designs or bold designs. I'm just worried about safety, honestly," said William Clark.

As of now, Grindline says they have an agreement for a conceptual design and will return in July with the initial design.
