Meridian, MS - As a lot of people travel on the road more these days, many are starting to notice a trend in distracted driving.
“People do not drive defensively anymore, they drive more offensively, whether they’re texting on their phones, looking up an address, talking to someone, they’re not paying full attention to what in front of them.” says Lanny Mayo.
Lanny Mayo is from Texas and has seen a lot of distracted drivers from all his traveling; therefor he feels something needs to be done. “What they need to do is become more responsible for their actions, because if they kill somebody, they’re going to live with that for the rest of their life, or if they injure someone, they’re going to live with that for the rest of their life.”
Speaking of being more responsible, Mia Crowson of Meridian emphasized the issue on both sides. “Cell Phones have kind of ruined the attention of pretty much everybody, but at the same time with the pedestrians, a lot are wearing dark colored clothing, or they’re walking with their back to traffic, so there’s issues on both sides with it, so it’s just not safe.”
Whether it’s Daytime, Nighttime, or any scenario in general, drivers on the road are encouraged to stay aware, and stay away from distractions.
