CVS Health begins to administer COVID-19 vaccines at Mississippi LTC facilities

CVS Health has officially begun to roll out COVID-19 vaccines to more than 200 nursing and assisted living facilities throughout the state of Mississippi.


This week on Monday, CVS Health began its administration of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines, 29,112 people at long-term care (LTC) facilities in Mississippi are expected to receive the first dose of the vaccine.


CVS Health did not reveal the names of the long-term care facilities locally in Meridian, that will be receiving the COVID-19 vaccines. Still in phase one of the COVID-19 vaccine distribution, the vaccine is only being administered to residents and employees of the long-term care facilities, and those receiving the vaccine must be negative for the coronavirus at the time of receiving the first dose of the vaccine.

“What we’ll do is send teams in, they’ll have full protective equipment, also called PPE, and have the vaccines with team and go in and vaccinate all the people who work in the LTC facilities as well as the people who have consented to have the vaccinations, who are patients there, and we’ll go back again, and yet again, to do the second dose and to make sure that we capture anyone else whose come through the system up to that point. So, it will be a total of three visits to each long-term care facility,” said Dr. Troy Brennan, Exec. Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of CVS Health.


CVS Health also has an agreement with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, to provide COVID-19 vaccines to the general public in 2021 at its CVS Pharmacy locations.

“Everybody in this country wants to return to normal life. The fastest way for us to do that is for everybody to get vaccinated. So, the speed of vaccination and people’s willingness ti be vaccinated is going to be very important,” said Dr. Brennan.


As of now, CVS Health has not yet released a date of when they will begin administering COVID-19 vaccinations to the general public.
